Livestock Exhibitor Scholarship Application

Junior Livestock Scholarship

Presented by the Friends of the Sacramento County Fair Foundation

The Foundation has developed scholarships that are awarded to seniors who will enroll in college or other post graduate training.

To apply for the scholarship, a student must:

  • Have a high school cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better.
  • Be planning on attending a college, accredited vocational school or other postgraduate program.
  • Be planning to start school in the fall semester following graduation.
  • Submit their high school transcript with the application.
  • Submit to the Sacramento County Fair by the due date.
  • Be available to the Auction Committee for an interview, if needed.
  • Have a market animal qualify for the Junior Livestock Auction in the year awarded.

Recipients of the scholarship must meet the following criteria in order to receive the scholarship money:

  • After enrollment in college a copy of the first semester course schedule must be sent to the Fair Manager showing enrollment in a minimum of 12 units. Upon receipt of the course schedule, the manager will release on half of the scholarship money.
  • To receive the balance of the scholarship money, the student must :
    • Send a copy of the first semester grades to the Fair Manager, indicating completion of 12 units with at least a 2.0 grade point average.
    • Send a copy of the second semester course schedule to the Fair Manager showing enrollment in at least 12 units.

When submitting this application, be sure to:

  • Include a copy of high school transcripts.
  • Submit to the Sacramento County Fair office by May 2, 2025. No late applications will be accepted!!

Part 1: History of Applicant’s Projects at the Sacramento County Fair.

In 300 words or less, please chronologically list all 4-H, FFA or other fair related activities. Please provide a brief summary of the project planning and the lessons learned from your experience, be it successful or otherwise. Why do you participate in the fair?

Part 2: History of Applicant’s Community Involvement.

In 300 words or less, chronically list your community involvement starting with your most recent activities. Examples include: church, community, school, scouting, etc.

Part 3: Essay

In 750 words or less, How does the Sacramento County Fair stay relevant to the community? Why is it important for fair attendee’s to learn about agriculture? How can livestock exhibitors educate fair attendees?
